We’ve listened to feedback from thousands of customers around the world and have redesigned our hive bodies to provide you with the very best experience.
In addition to all of these exciting new features, our beautiful new Flow Hive 2 has everything that’s made a Flow a favourite with beekeepers all over the world, including our patented Generation 2 Flow Frames that allow you to collect pure, fresh honey straight from the hive.

  • Flow Hive base – comes with ventilation control so you can offer your colony support in response to seasonal conditions. Also featuring inbuilt spirit levels to ensure your hive is set up for optimal honey harvesting and to help the bees in building straight natural brood comb.
  • Leg kit (optional extra) – allows you to control the height and level of your hive even on uneven ground. The ability to precisely adjust the height of the hive on each individual corner makes just about any terrain suitable for a Flow Hive.
  • Flow tray – provides a space free from bee activity where you can apply pest treatments and monitor debris for an insight into hive health. Useful for counting mites or checking for small hive beetles.
  • Brass fittings – on window latches and knobs offer robust functionality and complete the elegant design.
  • New ergonomic handle design - the brood box handles—created in the style of the Flow logo—are deeply cut for easier lifting. The brood box comes with 8 foundationless brood frames for the bees to naturally build their brood comb.
  • Two observation windows – The Flow Super is specially modified to accommodate our patented Flow Frames and now features observation windows on both sides,  giving you even more insight into your colony as they fill the Flow Super with delicious honey.
  • Harvesting shelf (optional extra) – this purpose designed honey jar shelf makes harvesting honey even easier. With multiple heights options to suit your needs.
  • Inner cover with plug – our inner cover is designed with a central hole for feeding your bees during winter in cold climates. This now comes with a convenient plug allowing you to control bee access to your roof cavity if you’d prefer them not to build honeycomb up there.
  • New roof design – offers even more weather protection, with pre-glued single shingle panels, and new roof attachment feature to assist in keeping your colony secure during adverse weather conditions.
  • Assembly tool – included with drive bits and specially designed stainless steel screws, which allow you to assemble without the use of a drill.

    How the invention works.

Often referred to as the “Beekeeper’s Dream”, Flow was created out of a desire to make harvesting honey easier for the beekeeper and to lessen its impact on the bees.

“I really didn’t like squashing bees or disturbing the hive when harvesting, so I thought ‘there has to be a better way'."
    - Cedar Anderson

For those that don’t know, harvesting honey used to be pretty labour intensive. After a decade of tinkering, our patented Flow Frame technology is the most significant advancement in beekeeping since 1852. It is now possible to simply turn the Flow Key and watch as pure, untouched, unprocessed fresh honey flows right out of the hive and into your jar

      Precision Manufacturing & Premium Timber

The patented Flow Frame technology allows you to tap honey directly from your hive. Made in Australia from durable, highest quality, food-grade, BPA and BPS-free plastic - Flow Frames have taken the beekeeping world by storm.

The Flow Hive 2 is our first hive to be manufactured in-house, using precision laser cutting.

This allows us to focus on quality control and ensure the highest levels of sustainability throughout the process, and also gives us the ability to innovate more quickly.

Crafted from premium Western Red Cedar, using precision manufacturing and paired with a full set of 6 Flow Frames, this is one sweet hive!

We are using Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) as it is a beautiful timber with a remarkably fine and stable grain structure, and is sustainably sourced in North America.

Timber included in this product is made from naturally grown resources - each hive will be slightly different in character. Please see our FAQ for more information on our natural timber characteristics

How much honey can I harvest?

Harvest up to 18 kgs (40 lb) of honey when the super is full. Watch as fresh, pure unfiltered honey Flows from the back of the hive directly into your own jars. No filtering, no mess.

Each Flow Frame holds approximately 3 kg (6.5 lb) of unprocessed honey, this can increase if the bees really build each frame out. Bee prepared with extra jars in case your first one overflows!

For more information on honey collection see our FAQ.

Safety, care and maintaining your flow hive

Apply a coat or two of timber sealant to bring out the lustre of this beautiful timber, and help it last even longer.

Beekeeping is a labour of love. As with all animal husbandry, it’s a pastime which requires knowledge, skill and dedication and which carries with it inherent risks. Sooner or later, all beekeepers get stung. Some people have severe allergies to bee stings, so please be aware of the potential hazards when considering whether beekeeping is right for you.
